3D DESIGN

‘Fantasy’

Progressed from

The Saint John Henry Newman Catholic School — GCSE

Statement

This piece, which is my final design combines fantasy and furniture. I decided to use this word as its very broad and allowed me to explore different ideas. The concept of this piece is dragon wings, which are fantastical creatures designed in a pattern and flipped upside down to create a lampshade. There were two clogs and 26 wings printed in total. I was really happy with the outcome of my work once it was assembled together.

‘Dreams’

Progressed from

Hertford Regional College — UAL Level 3 Diploma in 3D Design

Statement

Using the word Dream, I created a piece of furniture. I did artist research to give me the base of my work and added on from there as I saw fit. The goal for this piece of furniture was for it to give an organic or natural feel, and something that could related back to one of the words on my dream mind map when looking at it. Clouds is the main word that inspired the piece, and I think its comes across clearly.

‘Stratify’

Progressed from

Kingsmead School — GCSE

Statement

The piece is a perfect example of Stratification Architecture. For example, the repetition of the windows, the engraved wood pattern into the wood making it aesthetically pleasing. The rich brown colour creates a sleek, clean finish also complements the MDF colour seamlessly. This design has been inspired by my research on both modern stratified architecture and architects inspired by stratification.

‘Emotion’

Progressed from

Haileybury Turnford Secondary School — GCSE

Statement

I had to choose my own word and I chose the word ‘emotion’. I went into things like how colours and materials link to different emotions, also I went into the subject of anthropomorphism which is the act of giving inanimate objects human characteristics. I went into all kinds of things for research like the ‘field of spikes’, to doing research into bathroom signs. It all lead to a final model of the silhouette of the man’s bathroom sign, with different coloured rooms representing all the different emotions.

‘Deconstruction and reconstruction’

Progressed from

Robert Barclay Academy — GCSE

Statement

For my final design I have combined both deconstruction and reconstruction to create a hotel. This building was inspired by puzzle pieces I investigated during my research into deconstructivism. During the FMP I experimented with different pathways including furniture, I then used my theme research to create a upcycled stool using materials I found in a forest.

‘Coding’

Progressed from

The John Warner School — GCSE

Statement

My work combines the use of coding and the colour schemes into architectural designs and models/structures.  By creating my models using references from coding and technology that requires coding I was able to turn simple images such as barcodes and QR codes into 3D designs.

‘Reflect’

Progressed from

Burnt Mill Academy — GCSE

Statement

The piece merges facts about reflection and the mystery of Saturn’s rings together to create my final design. From the beginning of this brief, I had always wanted to look into space and how I could relate it to the word reflect. When finding out that Saturn’s rings reflect sunlight, I was adamant to research more deeply. Overall, this brief has taught me that the word reflect can be shown through many materials and how structures are shaped to work with natural light.

‘Past, present, future’

Progressed from

Bishop Stopford’s School — GCSE

Statement

I have chosen my title of work to be ‘past, present, future’. I chose the path of topic to be contemporary architecture. I love the idea of modern architecture and I like discovering different ways I can create new structures. Having 3 words as a title gave me more insight to research into each word and focus on development and progression. In all my work I made sure to develop each idea and annotate all work made.
