Statement
My project is based on the original stimulus ‘Wanderlust’, specifically looking at pop art and street art in New York City. From this I have created a garment combining both genres of art together. I have taken inspiration from pop artist Todd Gray and his eye catching, fun and uplifting mural collection at the World Trade Centre and have designed and made trousers using contrasting panels to reflect his work. Within these panels I have used a range of techniques including screen-printing, weaving and pintucking in a range of colours to create a sporty, streetwear look.

My project focuses on Tokyo; the culture, buildings, fashion, landscapes and the general aesthetic of the place. I have used many sources of research particularly the cherry blossom trees and Geisha girls. I have incorporated these elements into my design ideas and my final garment which I think represents the beautiful Japanese culture.

My final piece represents my research on a journey through South Africa. I used many sources of research such as the main tourist attractions / places to visit, art, patterns, and beadwork in textiles as well as the culture. Tribal outfits in South Africa stand out a lot and revolve round bright colours and flamboyant patterns. I have designed and made a top to represent these travels, a journey through colour, pattern, and frills.

For this project I took inspiration from my own interests; I am very interested in Japan and the culture there and would love to visit one day. I have focused my research on Pokémon, Anime and Harajuku fashion. My sketchbook brings representation to the Anime and games from Japan. From this research, I have designed and made pleated trousers which represents my desire to visit Japan during the beautiful cherry blossom season.

Statement
My work is inspired by the Colorado Mountains; the beauty of the mountains and the environment are combined in my work. I have been drawn to the texture of rocks and mountain landscapes, which I have presented through the development of colour, texture and pattern explored through various types of mixed media. I studied the work of artists such as Christo and Jeanne-Claude, and Yann Arthus Bertrand, who have all used this part of the world as inspiration for large scale art and photography.

Statement
Inspired by La Isla de las Munecas (island of the dead dolls) and the spirit of a drowned girl who haunts the island and possesses the hundreds of dolls that hang from the trees.
Combining the dark past of the island with the bright and exuberant colour palette from Day of the Dead celebrations; I focussed on creating colourful crochet pieces to feature in garments that encapsulate the celebration and honour the life of the little girl. A concept derived in response to the painting ‘Roots’ by Frida Kahlo, a piece which shows that beauty can grow from tragedy.
