‘The Morbid Victorian Mind’
Progressed from
Mount Grace School — A-Levels
Statement
The piece combines the innocent idea of Victorian portrait photography with the darker more interesting idea of the Victorians obsession with death. The visual likeness of female Victorian style, and photo quality, is captured using research into 19th century fashion and remnants of Victorian photographs which we are able to study today. These visuals are then combined with a double exposed skull as a subtle hint as to what lied behind the mind of 19th century society, which is less commonly looked upon as opposed to their aesthetic.
