‘Microcosm: My Little World’
Hertford Regional College — UAL Level 3 Extended Diploma in Art & Design (Fine Art)
The aim throughout this project was for me to learn how the different elements can be associated with different emotions and how they provide a safe environment for wildlife. Many animals create nests, dens or burrows to protect them against predators or harsh weather. It is a safe place for them. I wanted to create something similar only for people. I created a questionnaire and one of the questions was “would you like to have your own safe place/den?” to which everyone answered “yes”. Personally I feel very calm and at peace when I am around the elements and I wated to convey that energy through the den which I decided to shape in the fashion of a tree. I was originally going to make a life-sized version that a person could actually walk into, however, due to the covid-19 lockdown I had limited resources and the large version didn’t work out as I had hoped. I made a small version of the tree den and used Lego people to show how I imagined the final outcome would have looked like.
