Statement
S: Sexual sublimation, H: ‘How we smell’, A: Allowance of pubic hair, M: Menstrual Cycle, E: End Nipple Censorship. ‘S.H.A.M.E’ is a large scale, multimedia piece which examines different elements of Female Censorship. The concept behind ‘S.H.A.M.E’ was partially influenced by Ai WeiWei’s S.A.C.R.E.D boxes, each letter representing a different feminine issue under repression. The common denominator here is the limitations placed on empowerment, in turn breaking the female spirit, as implied through the fragmented body. The juxtaposition of the fish and flower acts to further exploit the expectations placed on women in all aspects within our dynamic patriarchy.
